ℳ oon, 2020 is an electroacoustic composition that combines live manipulation of voice, piano and violin that moves through a self-generative patch in Max/Msp, the sound of which is further manipulated in Ableton Live. Narrated by vocal artist Myrto Stylou, her text for the Moon was created and manipulated live on a Full Moon ritual during the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic in Athens, Greece.

Our evening meditation's energetic field brought transparency and the inspiration for a performance piece that combines organic elements with ideas of space weightlessness, integrating our feelings of discomfort and uncertainty in combination with the shift of our whole everyday life into the internet and the digital screen.

Finding our gradual healing process through our live performance, the technology of Max/Msp yielded ways to create a sound using filtered impulses and modulating delays that could then generate healing feedback overtones based on Pythagorian frequencies and tuning.

A midi keyboard could randomise partial numbers which multiplied these overtones, thus changing frequency rates. Connecting the patch into Ableton Live, incoming signal recordings were added to the Sampler, which allowed different recordings to generate a self-evolving synth. All these various midi sources could provide further melodic modulation and extreme levels of feedback effects. 

The Moon has a light and a dark side and floats into the endless matter of our solar system. 

Connecting with our inner consciousness, we align with our everyday reality but never give up on the search for universal awareness and origin.
